SNAP: Special Needs for all ages
SNAP stands for Special Needs Advancement Program. We believe that anyone should be able to train in martial arts if they have the desire to. The program was started in 2009 and was the first of it’s type in the State of Washington.
This is a class for people with any need that might require extra help or attention. We offer a fun, positive, and safe environment for special needs individuals to explore martial arts. SNAP develops basic skills, instructs simple self defense principles, builds a strong foundation, teaches discipline, keeps students active, and instills confidence.
Martial arts is so much more than just kicking and punching, and getting the next colorful belt. With every class we teach, our students grow in mind, body and character. And of course, it’s a ton of FUN! So please have a look below to find out exactly how anyone needing extra help or attention can benefit from our SNAP martial arts classes.
Develops basic skills. Our Instructors teach basic skills through fun martial arts exercises such as: motor skills, left/right recognition, coordination, cooperation, following instructions, following rules, interaction with peers/teacher, and respect for others.
Instructs simple self defense principles. We introduce self defense without intimidating or overwhelming our students. Concepts that are taught include personal space, using our voice as a weapon, and stranger danger.
Teaches discipline. We teach discipline through positive reinforcement, modeling, and discussions about appropriate behavior. Discipline allows you to achieve goals by weeding out the distractions in your life through self-control. Discipline makes for more intelligent, emotionally stable, and motivated students.
Keeps students active. There is no doubt that martial arts is great exercise and the process of training in martial arts is more exciting and fun because it is fast-paced and each class is different. Our workouts develop strength, quickness, balance, flexibility, and stamina.
Instills confidence. Classes are built around a stripe system, and the concept of setting students up for success by giving them a series of realistic, short term goals that they can attain to earn colorful stripes on their belt. With each success, their confidence improves until they believe that, with hard work and dedication, they can accomplish just about anything.
SNAP training is available in group classes that are Once-a-Week.
